Marian Hoy has been writing children's stories for more than 30 years, and also writes about her travels in Mexico and Honduras. She has been a published author for many years, and we are proud to have her with the Javelina Books team of writers. She also trains Private Investigators in the art of criminal investigations, and has begun writing intriguing mysteries about current events. From time to time she adds a generous splash of romance for the grizzled men of mystery. Marian lives quietly in a small community in the rolling green hills of the Texas Hill Country, and spends hours sitting in the shade of her backyard writing and watching sweet hummingbirds spirit about the abundant Bougainvillea. Her first book with us is Strays which is available on Kindle and now Thru a Pale Rain also on Kindle.
Strays. a colorful, poignant, and funny account of a group of frisky seniors who live in a commune on a Texas Hill County ranch, and how their lives change for the better when three small children are abandoned on their ranch, and they decide to keep them. They are a group of advanced aged persons who, like the movies say, are too young to be old, and too old to be young!
This sweet story also has elements of untimely death of a beloved friend, heart wrenching disappointment of love betrayed, an attempted sexual assault that is stopped before perpetrated on one of the dearest of the residents, as well as other unexpected events...but so goes this situation in which we find our characters, called life!
Aleja and her mother, Eva, two of the most influential and richest women in Latin America clandestinely protect the poor people of the rainforest from Paco, a guerilla warlord, who is determined to annihilate the people and steal their land. With blind abandon, Caroline, an American Journalism student researching indigenous women in southern Mexico, joins Eva and Aleja to take on Paco and his armies. As Paco’s armies advance, the three women cut and scratch their way through the tangled roots and branches of the difficult understory of the rainforest solely to warn the inhabitants to run away from the impending melee. In a last ditch breathtaking effort to prevent their own slaughter, the women dangerously catapult themselves to the canopy, the only place on earth where Paco will never find them. Paco’s main prize is to find Aleja, torture and kill her before she can run to the arms of her lover. Because, you see, Aleja is . . . Paco’s wife.
