He's been called the James Joyce of our generation! Donald L. Buford's book, Sex, Drugs & a Rock Band, Book One will become a cult classic. It's a look at the music business from the inside out, a writer who actually tells you what it was really like. Compared to Hunter S. Thompson in his outrage and gutsy appeal. Don's Sex, Drugs is funny as hell, a true slice of life in the music industry of the early 1970's, of Kent State and Woodstock. Somehow Don remembers (he thinks) all the little details of that era, despite ingesting mass quantities of booze, drugs and groupies. A day-to-day excursion through the crash pads and side streets of a little southern town.
This autobiographical "writer's copy" is un-censored, un-edited and free-flowing. Truly a "Gonzo" recollection, and if you are a fan of sex, drugs, and/or rock & roll, you will find Sex, Drugs Book I, as good a representation of what transpired in those golden days of yesteryear as you are ever going to find.

It's a book that tells it how it really, really, was, and if you're not ready to take the red pill, just pass on these books. Don says he'll keep writing until he completely chronicles the 1970s. His second book is about what the rest of the musicians (rock & rollers) were doing in Austin, Texas when Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings & that gang took over the music scene in the A-Tex. The title for this work is Hijacking the Moon Tower - the rock & roll invasion of Austin - 1974-76. This long awaited book from Javelina Books resident Freak Brother is now available on Kindle and will be for sale in paper form in Summer, 2014.
Donald L. Buford's Books:
Don's first, in what will be a trilogy of books, starts in California in late 1969, and takes us hand in hand, moment by unbelievable moment, to a little known Headless Horseman town named Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the strangest band, an eclectic group of close friends named The Gavence Family Travelers was born. Not a cult, ...nor a street gang mind ya. (Well, maybe a street gang ...a little. Well, maybe both). Sex, Drugs and a Rock Band ISBN 978-0-9785221-6-2 Biography $16.95 Not available on Kindle.
Hijacking the Moon Tower - the rock & roll invasion of Austin, Texas – is the story of what the rest of the music world was doing in Austin while Willie & Waylon dominated the music scene. It was hard to get a gig in those days if you didn't sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Freaking Rain,” says Don. A handful of bands stuck it out for those few years til the scene did change! And, change it did! Join the gang as they strive to stay afloat til the days of rock returned! It was a very creative time in Austin, and a ton of fun! This is the sequel to Sex, Drugs & a Rock Band, Book One Hijacking the Moon Tower, Book Two Has yet to be published in the paper edition. Look for the paper addition in Summer, 2015. Meanwhile be sure and get your copy on Kindle.
